Standard deviation of F0 in student monologue
نویسنده
چکیده
Twenty ten-minute oral presentations made by Swedish students speaking English have been analyzed with respect to the standard deviation of F0 over long stretches of speech. Values have been normalized by division with the mean. Results show a strong correlation between proficiency in English and pitch variation for male speakers but not for females. The results also identify monotone and disfluent speakers.

Dependency Analysis of Spontaneous Monologue Speech Using Pause and F0 Information: A Preliminary Study
This paper deals with the problem of exploiting prosodic information in syntactic analysis of spontaneous monologue utterances of non-professional speakers. Duration of pauses at phrase boundaries and relative F0 contour features, which improve parsing accuracy of read sentences, were also found to be effective for parsing spontaneous speech. Dependency analysis was performed by the minimum pen...
متن کاملDevelopment of a Protein- and Calcium-Rich Snack Food Made From a Local Anchovy (Stolephorus spp) Flour, Soy Protein Isolate and Bambara Groundnut (Vigna subterranea) Flour
Background and Objectives: School children have a high snacking frequency. However, it is poor in nutrients. It is important to provide nutritious snack to support their growth and development. This study aimed to evaluate the nutrient content and sensory properties of a protein- and calcium-rich snack made from a local anchovy (LA), soy protein isolate (SPI), and Bambara groundnut flour (BGF)....
متن کاملAcoustic Correlates of Compensatory Adjustments to the Glottic and Supraglottic Structures in Patients with Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis
The goal of this study was to analyse perceptually and acoustically the voices of patients with Unilateral Vocal Fold Paralysis (UVFP) and compare them to the voices of normal subjects. These voices were analysed perceptually with the GRBAS scale and acoustically using the following parameters: mean fundamental frequency (F0), standard-deviation of F0, jitter (ppq5), shimmer (apq11), mean harmo...
متن کاملSeven and up: individual differences in male voice fundamental frequency emerge before puberty and remain stable throughout adulthood
Voice pitch (the perceptual correlate of fundamental frequency, F0) varies considerably even among individuals of the same sex and age, communicating a host of socially and evolutionarily relevant information. However, due to the almost exclusive utilization of cross-sectional designs in previous studies, it remains unknown whether these individual differences in voice pitch emerge before, duri...
متن کاملIndividual differences in cortisol stress response predict increases in voice pitch during exam stress.
Despite a long history of empirical research, the potential vocal markers of stress remain unclear. Previous studies examining speech under stress most consistently report an increase in voice pitch (the acoustic correlate of fundamental frequency, F0), however numerous studies have failed to replicate this finding. In the present study we tested the prediction that these inconsistencies are ti...
